WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

STIHL Linetrimmers and Brushcutters offer great versatility for regular trimming or larger clearing tasks. This page has useful information to help you use your machine safely and effectively.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

As with operating any machine, wearing the appropriate safety equipment is essential. It is common for dirt, grass and stones to fly out from the cutting head during use, so wearing approved safety glasses and face protection is a great place to start.

Petrol Brushcutters and Linetrimmers can produce high levels of noise. Users risk damage to their hearing when exposed to this noise for extended periods of time, therefor effective ear protection is must be worn.

MIXING FUEL

The correct mixture of gasoline and engine oil is critical to the health of your Brushcutter's engine. Always use a ratio of 50:1 (50 parts gasoline to 1 part engine oil). The STIHL HP ULTRA bottle comes with a useful level indicator to help ensure correct fuel mixture.

Alternatively, using STIHL Motomix removes the risk of using incorrectly mixed fuel in your engine.

SERVICE & MAINTENANCE

To get the most out of your Brushcutter or Linetrimmer, it should be serviced by your local STIHL SHOP on a regular basis. This not only improves the longevity of your machine, but also ensures consistent performance. We generally recommend a service once every year (not including your first free service) and suggest that you do not leave the fuel mix in your machine for long periods of non-use (approximately 6 weeks).

Commercial users will require more regular servicing due to more frequent use.
