    Details

The STIHL HLA 86 is a premium cordless long-reach hedge trimmer designed for professionals who require maximum reach and flexibility. With a telescopic shaft extending up to 330 cm, adjustable cutter bar, and quiet EC motor, it’s ideal for maintaining tall hedges, bushes, and low-growing plants. Built for daily use in all weather conditions, it’s part of the STIHL ALLPRO System, offering durability, and compatibility across a range of professional-grade tools.

Extended Reach Without the Ladder: With a total length of up to 330 cm, the HLA 86 lets you trim tall hedges and hard-to-reach areas safely from the ground. The telescopic shaft extends by 70 cm without tools for quick adjustments on the job.

Clean, Precise Cutting: Double-sided blades powered by a quiet EC motor deliver a sharp, clean cut.

Quiet Operation for Sensitive Areas: Work confidently in noise-sensitive environments like parks, schools, and neighbourhoods thanks to the low-noise EC motor.

Adjustable Cutter Bar for Versatility: The cutter bar adjusts from -45° to +70°, giving you flexibility to trim tops, sides, and ground-level plants. It also folds parallel to the shaft for easy transport and storage.

Ergonomic & Safe Design: The control handle suits both right and left-handed users and features a self-resetting locking lever. The anti-slip guard on the handle bar ensures secure handling during extended use.

Built for All Conditions: Certified splashproof to IPX4 standards, the HLA 86 is ready for daily use, even in wet or unpredictable weather.

    FAQ'S

    Q: Are the Batteries Interchangeable?

A: Yes, all of the tools in the ALLPRO Cordless System use the same style of battery. For the HLA 86, we recommend the AP 100 P battery as it provides the perfect balance between weight and power, but you can use any of the other batteries in this range.

Q: Does the performance of the Battery reduce as it depletes?

A: No there is no gradual drop in performance – the battery runs at full power until it is fully depleted.

Q: Will the blades need sharpening?

A: Keeping the blades sharp will give a neat cut on whatever you are trimming. If you notice that the blades are getting jammed easily or the machine is struggling, the blades may need sharpening. Our STIHL SHOP retailers can do this for you.

Q: What should I wear when using this tool?

A: We recommend that you wear snug-fitting clothes, eye protection, gloves and sturdy boots or shoes, and tie back long hair.

Q: How thick of a branch can the HLA 86 cut?

A: The HLA 86 is designed for hedge trimming and maintenance, with a 33 mm tooth spacing that allows it to handle thicker hedge growth than many homeowner models.

Q: Can I buy it without a battery and charger?

A: Yes, you can buy the tool only version.

Q: Is the HLA 86 suitable for professional use?

A: Yes. The HLA 86 is designed for professional landscapers, contractors, farmers, and property owners who require maximum reach, durability, and long working times.

Q: Can the cutter bar be adjusted for different angles?

A: Yes. The cutter bar adjusts from -45° to +70°, making it easier to trim hedge tops, sides, and low-growing shrubs while maintaining a comfortable working position.

Q: Is the HLA 86 a better choice than a standard hedge trimmer?

A: The HLA 86 offers more versatility than a standard hedge trimmer. In addition to trimming everyday hedges, its telescopic shaft extends your reach, making it ideal for maintaining tall, wide, or hard-to-reach hedges. This allows you to work safely from the ground and reduces the need to use a ladder.

Q: What is a STIHL laminate cell battery?

A: STIHL laminate cell batteries are the latest generation of STIHL lithium-ion battery technology, designed to provide more power, longer runtime and reduced weight for professional users.

Q: How is a laminate cell battery different from a standard lithium-ion battery?

A: Both use lithium-ion technology, but STIHL laminate cell batteries pack more energy into a lighter battery. That means more power and longer runtime without unnecessary weight, making your tool easier to handle during longer jobs. Pair it with the STIHL AL 1802 MO charger for seriously fast charging: up to 80% in just 9 minutes and 100% in 20 minutes, so you can spend less time waiting and more time working.

Q: What is the difference between the HLA 86 and HLA 66?

A: The HLA 86 features a telescopic shaft that extends from 260 cm to 330 cm, making it better suited for particularly tall or difficult-to-reach hedges. The HLA 66 is lighter at 3.8 kg and has a fixed 205 cm shaft, making it easier to manoeuvre.
