The STIHL HSA 40 is a lightweight and efficient hedge trimmer designed for smaller garden jobs, perfect for trimming box hedges, shaping shrubs, and maintaining annual growth. With a longer blade and wider tooth spacing than the HSA 30, it offers a bit more reach and can cut slightly larger material, all while remaining easy to handle.

More Reach, Bigger Growth: The 50 cm cutter bar and 24 mm tooth spacing let you trim slightly larger branches and cover more ground with each pass.

Sharp, Reliable Cutting: The laser-cut, diamond-ground, and hardened blades, combined with intelligent battery power management, deliver smooth, consistent cutting, especially on young growth.

Comfortable to Use: The two-hand control system and soft grip surfaces provide a secure, comfortable hold in any working direction.

Protects Itself & Your Garden: A screw-on tip protector helps prevent blade damage when working near the ground or close to walls.

The LED charge level indicator allows the user to check how much battery charge is left at any time at the push of a button.

Two Handed Design

The tool is easily started by activating both switches on the loop handle and the rear handle at the same time. The cutting speed is continuously variable using the rear control, for a fine and precise cut. The two handed design is suitable for both left and right-handed users.

Blade Tip Protection

The tip protector helps protect the blades from damage when cutting near the ground or along walls.

Each blade is laser cut and ground using diamond discs. The hardened cutting edges are highly resilient and remain sharp for a longer period of time.

Q: How long does the battery last?

A: The AS 2 Battery will last up to 66 minutes, this depends on what is being cut and how the tool is being used.

Q: How long does it take to charge?

A: To fully charge an AL 1 Battery it takes 70 minutes, or to charge it up to 80%, it takes 50 minutes with the AL 101 charger.

Q: Are the Batteries Interchangeable?

A: Yes, all of the tools in the STIHL AS Battery System are interchangeable.

Q: Does this tool come with a Warranty?

A: Yes, the HSA 40 comes with a STIHL domestic 2 year warranty.

Q: What should I wear when using this tool?

A: We recommend that you wear snug-fitting clothes, eye protection, gloves and sturdy boots or shoes, and tie back long hair.

Q: Will the blades need sharpening?

A: Keeping the blades sharp will give a neat cut on whatever you are trimming. If you notice that the blades are getting jammed easily or the machine is struggling, the blades may need sharpening. Our STIHL SHOP retailers can do this for you or it is easy to do yourself.
